Columbus, OH – James Wahlrab, United
States Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio, Walter Distelzweig, Chief
for the City of Columbus Division of Police, and Franklin County Sheriff,
James Karnes, announced today that Ishmael Bowers has been arrested. The 26
year-old Bowers was wanted on an alleged Aggravated Murder warrant. The warrant for Bowers was issued on March 16, 2009. In the indictment, it’s alleged that on June 14, 2004 Ishmael Bowers shot and killed Columbus resident Mark Warren. Marshal Wahlrab stated “You’ve got to give a huge amount of credit to the Columbus homicide unit along with Franklin County’s detectives in keeping this case open and on-going. Without their investigative diligence, a violent criminal could have continued to live in our community.” The Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) arrested Bowers today near the 2200 block of Parkwood Avenue in Columbus. Bowers was taken into custody without incident, however authorities seized a sawed off shotgun in his residence at the time of arrest. SOFAST is a multi-agency fugitive apprehension team led by the U.S. Marshals Service and comprised of the following law enforcement agencies in the Columbus area: U. S. Marshals Service, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Columbus Division of Police, Ohio Adult Parole Authority, Ross County Sheriff’s Office, Grove City Police Department, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, U.S. Department of Agriculture – OIG, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Columbus Division of Fire, Reynoldsburg Police Department, Whitehall Police Department, Grandview Heights Police Department, Lancaster Police Department, and the Worthington Police Department.
