| Savannah Fugitive Captured |
A
fugitive wanted by the Savannah Chatham Metro Police Department was arrested
by the U.S. Marshals Savannah Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task
Force, SCMPD K-9, and SCMPD Precinct 4 officers on February 23, 2009, in
Savannah, Georgia.Roosevelt Brown, 47, was being sought on a state warrant for Burglary issued in Savannah, Georgia in December 2008. The case was referred to the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force for assistance in arresting him in January 2009. The Marshals Fugitive Task Force investigation generated leads that indicated that still in Savannah, Georgia in the area of Bull St and 46th. Numerous leads were worked that lead to this area. The investigation revealed that Brown was at 11 Pearl Street in Savannah, GA. Task Force investigators, SCMPD K-9, and SCMPD Precinct 4 Officers went to the address and Brown was found hiding in a void space between the shower and the wall. Brown had to be helped out from behind the shower and was arrested without incident. Brown was then turned over to Precinct 4 officers and was transported to the Chatham County Jail to await his court appearance. Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately 36, 000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by the Marshals Service than all other federal agencies combined. The Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force has three offices: Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah. The task force covers the whole state of Georgia. The Savannah Offices of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force is a team comprised of investigators from the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department, the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and the United States Marshals Service. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with violent crimes, drug crimes, sex offenders, and other felonies. Last year, U.S. Marshals Task Forces arrested more than 58,600 state and local fugitives on felony charges. Additional information about the U.S. Marshals can be found at http://www.usmarshals.gov. |
