| Collaborative Law Enforcement Effort Nets Fugitive From Florida |
Akron,
OH – U.S. Marshal Peter J. Elliott announces the arrest of Michael B.
Dilla, apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task
Force in Medina, Ohio this morning. Dilla was wanted out of Florida for
Assault – Felony Domestic Battery, Assault – Battery/Coerce by Retaliation
and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. The U.S. Marshals Florida
Regional Fugitive Task Force developed information that Dilla had fled to
Ohio and requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent
Fugitive Task Force with locating and apprehending Dilla.
This morning, the task force located Dilla in a vehicle in the 800 block of West Liberty Road in Medina, Ohio. The Deputy U.S. Marshals and Task Force Officers attempted to arrest Dilla at that time and he refused to cooperate when asked to exit the vehicle. Dilla also held off authorities by holding a knife to his own throat. The Medina County Sheriff’s Office and Medina Police Department responded to the scene to assist the task force. A negotiator from the Medina County Sheriff’s Office was successful in communicating with Dilla over a period of time. At approximately 9:45 a.m., Dilla exited the vehicle and peacefully surrendered to the law enforcement officers. Dilla was transported to the Medina County Jail to await extradition to Florida. U.S. Marshal Peter J. Elliott states, “This is another case which proves that desperate fugitives make desperate decisions which can place themselves and others in harms way. I am thankful that this situation was able to be resolved in a peaceful manner and this is credited to the professionalism of all of the law enforcement officers involved.” Anyone with information regarding the
whereabouts of a known fugitive is encouraged to contact the U.S. Marshals
