A fugitive wanted by the Saratoga Springs, New
York Police Department and the United States
Marshals Service in the Northern District of New York was arrested by the
U.S. Marshals Savannah office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task on
February 6, in Savannah, Georgia.Jeffrey O’Dell, 34, was being sought on a state warrant for Failure to
Register as a Sex Offender from both Saratoga Springs, New York and a
federal warrant from the Northern District of New York. The state warrant
was issued after New York authorities determined that O’Dell had disappeared
from his registered address in September of 2008, in Saratoga Springs, New
York. The case was referred to the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Fugitive Task Force
for assistance in arresting him. The New York Marshals also obtained a
warrant for Failure to Register as Sex Offender pursuant to the Adam Walsh
Act.
The Marshals NY/NJ Fugitive Task Force investigation generated leads that
indicated that O’Dell was in the Savannah, Georgia area. The case was then
referred to the Savannah Southeast Regional Task Force to find him. The
Savannah Task Force worked numerous leads in the Savannah, Richmond Hill,
and Hinesville, Georgia areas over the last three weeks. The investigation
revealed that O’Dell was at 125 Mark Circle in Savannah, Georgia. Task Force
investigators went to the address and O’Dell fled out the back door and was
found hiding under a truck in the back yard.
O’Dell will be transferred back to New York to answer both the federal and
state charges. O’Dell was classified as a Level 3 sex offender in New York
and has approximately twenty-two prior convictions in three states.
Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the
apprehension of approximately 36, 000 federal fugitives. More federal
fugitives are arrested by the Marshals Service than all other federal
agencies combined.
The Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force has three offices:
Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah. The task force covers the whole state of
Georgia. The Savannah Offices of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force
is a team comprised of investigators from the Georgia Department of
Corrections, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department, the Savannah Chatham
Metropolitan Police Department and the United States Marshals Service. The
task force objective is to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with
violent crimes, drug crimes, sex offenders, and other felonies. Last year,
U.S. Marshals Task Forces arrested more than 58,600 state and local
