Chatham County Suspect Captured in New York |
A fugitive wanted by the Chatham County
Sheriff’s Department was arrested by the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey
Regional Fugitive Task Force on January 22, 2009 in Nichols, New York.Michael S. Every, 48, was being sought on a warrant after being indicted in Chatham County, Georgia charging him with nine counts of Child Molestation and Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes. The warrant was issued on December 18, 2008. The case was referred to the U.S. Marshals Savannah Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force for assistance in locating and arresting this subject. Numerous leads were worked by the Savannah Task Force which generated leads that indicated Every had fled the area and was either in Pennsylvania or upstate New York. In mid January, the Savannah Task Force received a tip that he might be in Nichols, New York. This information was sent to the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force for assistance in apprehending Every. On January 22, 2009, the Marshals NY/NJ Task Force went to the address of 1804 Main St in Nichols New York to conduct surveillance. NY/NJ Task Force members observed a car that was registered to Every with a Georgia tag, parked behind the residence. Task Force members approached the residence and were able to arrest Every without incident. Every was taken to the Tioga County Jail to await extradition back to Georgia. Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately 36, 000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by the Marshals Service than all other federal agencies combined. The Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force has three offices: Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah. The task force covers the whole state of Georgia. The Savannah Offices of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force is a team comprised of investigators from the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department, the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and the United States Marshals Service. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with violent crimes, drug crimes, sex offenders, and other felonies. Last year, U.S. Marshals Task Forces arrested more than 58,600 state and local fugitives on felony charges. Additional information about the U.S. Marshals can be found at http://www.usmarshals.gov. |
