FLAG Task Force Arrests Fugitive Jesse Sloan in Fort Garland

Fort Garland, CO – Jesse Sloan,39, was arrested Saturday afternoon at his parents’ house at 19037 Cervantes Road in Fort Garland by members of the Fugitive Location and Apprehension Group (FLAG), the Alamosa Police Department, the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office, the Costilla County Sheriff’s Office, the Colorado State Patrol, and parole officers from the Colorado Department of Corrections. Sloan was wanted by the Colorado Department of Corrections for parole violation on original charges of escape and theft. Sloan had an extensive criminal history and was known to use aliases.

Jesse Sloan’s otherwise unremarkable case gained notoriety on the evening of January 13th when the Weld County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a car that he was riding in. Sloan jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot into a field. The driver of the vehicle, Sloan’s girlfriend, Lori McNitt, was taken into custody for charges related to obstructing the investigation. Sloan was able to elude authorities that night despite the use of a helicopter and K-9s. At the time of the stop, Weld County was assisting FLAG in the investigation. Since this was the second time that Sloan had managed to slip away, investigators were determined to catch him.

Investigators from FLAG actively pursued all possible leads and the case took them to the Alamosa area on Friday. Surveillance was set up at various locations that Sloan was known to be associated with. Once they were confident that Sloan was in one of two places, FLAG investigators mustered a large contingent of local officers from the surrounding area. On Saturday afternoon at about 2:20pm, Sloan’s run from the law came to an end. Officers found Sloan and McNitt hiding in hit his parents’ house. The vehicle that was involved in the original traffic stop was found at a business in Alamosa where Sloan’s father worked. McNitt was detained and may face additional charges.

FLAG is a multi-agency fugitive task force comprised of investigators from the U.S. Marshals, Denver Police, Aurora Police, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Department of Corrections.
