Detroit Homicide Suspect Arrested in New Orleans By U.S. Marshals Task Force

On January 14th, 2009, the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF) New Orleans office arrested David Stann, 26, at his residence in the 6800 block of Parc Britney Blvd. New Orleans, LA. Stann is the suspect of a homicide that occurred in Detroit, Michigan. Stann has been booked into the Orleans Parish prison and is waiting extradition to Detroit, Michigan.

On March 25th, 2007, Detroit Police Department (DPD) homicide detectives allege that Stann was involved in the murder of Gary Jones, 19. Investigator’s with the Detroit Police Department (DPD) determined that prior to the murder Stann fraudulently obtained the rights to the victim’s life insurance benefits. Once that the Detroit Police Department homicide detectives exhausted local efforts to locate Stann they turned to their most reliable resource in locating wanted fugitives; the U.S. Marshals Service Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Task Force (DFATF). Members of (DFATF) developed information that Stann had fled to familiar territory in his native New Orleans, LA. (DFATF) contacted the U.S. Marshals Service (GCRFTF) New Orleans office and requested assistance with apprehending Stann.

On January 14th, 2009, members of the (GCRFTF) developed information that indicated Stann had taken on the alias of Kaline Brown and was hiding in the area of New Orleans East. Task Force members located Stann at his apartment in the 6800 block of Parc Britney Blvd and arrested him without incident. During Stann’s arrest a firearm and a parcel of mail were discovered. Stann was booked into the Orleans Parish Prison on the charges of Murder, Illegal Possession of a Firearm and Possession of stolen mail.

Current GCRFTF members include the New Orleans Police Department, the Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff’s Office, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana Probation and Parole and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Other New Orleans metro area law enforcement agencies participating on a case by case basis include: Bogalusa Police Department, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Social Security OIG .
