Columbus, OH – United States Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio,
James Wahlrab, and Acting Chief for the Columbus Division of Police, Antone
Lanata announced today that Terron Demarr Jones has been apprehended. The 19
year old Jones was wanted by the Columbus Division of Police for Rape and
Kidnapping.
The warrants for Jones were issued after it was alleged that he brutally raped a female victim at gunpoint on January 11, 2008. Members of the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) located Jones after a viewer of a local news broadcast featuring fugitives recognized Jones. The viewer called in the tip and SOFAST along with Columbus Division of Police quickly closed in on Jones and made the arrest. Jones was taken into custody without incident at 710 Kimball Place, in Columbus. Deputy U.S. Marshal Mark Stroh stated, “This fugitive was arrested as a concerted effort between SOFAST and one of our SOFAST partners, the Columbus Division of Police. We all worked in conjunction and through mutual cooperation we arrested him as a team.” U.S. Marshal James Wahlrab also commented on the arrest by saying, “This was an opportunity for us to take another violent fugitive off the streets. The community is now a safer place to live and work.” SOFAST is a multi-agency fugitive apprehension team led by the U.S. Marshals Service and comprised of the following law enforcement agencies in the Columbus area: U. S. Marshals Service, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Columbus Division of Police, Ohio Adult Parole Authority, Ross County Sheriff’s Office, Grove City Police Department, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, U.S. Department of Agriculture – OIG, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Columbus Division of Fire, Reynoldsburg Police Department, Whitehall Police Department, Grandview Heights Police Department, Lancaster Police Department, and the Worthington Police Department.
