Roanoke Murder Suspect Captured in Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh, PA - A woman wanted in the 2004 stabbing death of a Roanoke man was apprehended Wednesday in Pittsburgh by the U.S. Marshals Service. Marcella Gail Martin, 53, is charged with murder in the stabbing death of Lonnie Marsh at the American Motel in the 4600 block of Williamson Road Northwest. Roanoke City police responded to room 8 of the hotel on December 20, 2004 and discovered Marsh’s body. Marcella Martin immediately became a suspect in his death and an arrest warrant was issued, but she fled Roanoke before she could be located.

Roanoke Police, who are members of the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and deputy U.S. marshals in Roanoke, tracked Martin to Pittsburgh. Based on a lead developed, the Marshal’s Task Force in Roanoke alerted their counterparts in Pittsburgh.

While conducting surveillance in the 900 block of Lessing Street in Pittsburgh, deputy marshals observed Martin in a vehicle occupied by Martin and her mother. Deputies followed the vehicle to her mother’s residence which was quickly surrounded and entry was made to search for Martin. Martin was discovered hiding under a bed and was arrested without incident.

Martin was charged as a fugitive from justice in Pennsylvania and will be extradited back to Roanoke to stand trial at a future date.
