HIGHLIGHT ARREST

MICHAEL LEAHY       CHILD PORNOGRAPHY       LONDON

Michael Leahy, 29, was wanted by the Tazewell County, Illinois Sheriff’s Office for unlawful use of weapons, attempted child abduction, and resisting a police officer. In 2001, deputy sheriffs responded to a complaint that Leahy was trying to lure children into a church van. When deputies arrived and searched the van, they found seven weapons. As the investigation continued, federal authorities from the Peoria Cybercrime Task Force executed a search warrant on Leahy’s computer and found images of child pornography. Leahy was charged by the Central District of Illinois with possession of child pornography and he immediately became a fugitive. Apprehension responsibility for the investigation was turned over to Operation FALCON. During the course of investigation, teams tracked Leahy to Ireland and then to London. A Provisional Arrest Warrant was issued, and on April 8, 2005, Leahy was arrested in London. He is currently pending extradition to the United States.
