NOTICE TO PRISONERS

The United States Marshal Service (USMS) places strict limitations on personal property federal prisoners may have while detained in contract institutions. Most District of Wyoming detention facilities limit personal property further than is listed below and are authorized to do so by the authority of the United States Marshal.

All prisoners in USMS custody are not allowed to retain excess personal property beyond what is listed below:
 

• U.S. Currency up to fifty ($50) dollars
• Check or money order in any amount
• Prescribed medications by a licensed physician
• Eye glasses
• Contact lenses with solution
• Wedding band (plain, flat, with NO STONES)
• The set of civilian clothes you were arrested in
• Legal documents pertinent to your federal case
  
  

If there is any property you accumulate at the county jail facility beyond what has been described above, it will be the individual prisoner’s responsibility (both financially and timely) to dispose of the property to your attorney of record, your family, or a friend.

Any excess property which is not disposed of to your attorney of record, family, or friend prior to your transfer to BOP will be treated as abandoned property and will be destroyed or otherwise disposed of by the U.S. Marshals Service in accordance with USMS policy and procedures.
