Michael Kline

Michael Kline, USM, E/WA

Michael L. Kline was nominated by President George W. Bush to serve as the United States Marshal for the Eastern District of Washington in April of 2002.  His nomination was confirmed by the Senate and formally appointed on July 31, 2002.  Mike was born in Spokane and raised in the farming community of Quincy, Washington.

Mike started his law enforcement career in 1970 as a cadet with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.  He continued as a cadet while attending college; receiving his degree in 1973.  Upon moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1973, he accepted a deputy position with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.  From 1972 until 1978, Mike served in the Washington State Air National Guard, serving with the 242nd Mobile Communications Squadron as a Communications Specialist. 

Mike returned to Washington in 1975 as a deputy with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department and served in that position until 1981 when he received a promotion to Sergeant.  While serving in those positions he worked as a patrol officer, supervisor and investigator.  Investigative specialties included child physical/sexual abuse and homicide.  Among other areas of expertise he was canine handler, a DARE Officer and

instructor, instructor for the Criminal Justice Training Commission, hostage negotiator, and forensic hypnotist.  Mike was elected to the Office of Sheriff of Adams County, Washington and took the oath of office in January 1995.  He is an active member of the Washington Association of Sheriff’s and Police Chiefs, Washington State Sheriff’s Association and the Western States Sheriff’s Association. He served as both vice president and president of the Washington State Sheriff’s Association.  In 1996 he served as chairman of the Washington State Board for Law Enforcement Training Standards.   In 2000 he was appointed by Governor Locke to the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission. 

Mike remains active in community service organizations and has previously held leadership positions with the Lions organization.
