John R. Edwards was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as United States Marshal for the District of Vermont on March 18, 2002. John was born in Bellows Falls, Vermont. He served in the United States Navy from 1960 through 1963. In 1975 he received his Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Castleton State College. John began his law enforcement career in 1964 with the Vermont State Police. He was assigned various duties with the state police retiring in 1992 as Detective Lieutenant. In 1993 John established a private investigation business specializing in accident investigations. John served for 12 years on his local school board and has served as a board member on numerous non profit organizations. In November 1994 he was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives. He served in that capacity through 2000. In 2000 the Vermont Law School awarded John the "Simon Pierce" Vermont Vanguard Award. In 2001 the Vermont Law Review awarded him its "Vermont Inspiration Award". John is married; he and his wife Deanna have 6 children and 5 grandchildren. |
