THE LONE STAR FUGITIVE TASK FORCE ANNOUNCES THE ARREST OF
JOSE CASAREZ

Lone Star Fugitive Task Force LogoSan Antonio – Jose Casarez thought he could hide from justice by using an assumed name of Arthur Hamelin and leaving the state in which his crimes had occurred. This afternoon Casarez’s flight from justice ended when the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested him at a construction sight in the Medical Center.

The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, led by the United States Marshals Service in the Western District of Texas, was contacted ten days ago by the United States Marshals Service in the Eastern District of Wisconsin who believed Casarez had relocated to the San Antonio area. Casarez had been on the run since 2002. Casarez was wanted by the Milwaukee Police Department for 1st Degree Sexual Assault of a Child, by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for Felony Violation of Parole, and by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. Casarez’s underling conviction on the parole case was for 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of a Child. He also has an extensive criminal history of violent crimes.

Task Force officers developed information that Casarez was using an assumed name and living with relatives in the San Antonio area. Further investigation revealed that Casarez was working for a local temporary agency on a construction site located on the 8000 block of Ewing-Halsell.

When the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force approached and identified themselves as law enforcement officers Casarez tried to resist arrest and was quickly subdued without further incident. Casarez could face state charges of resisting arrest and federal charges under the Adam Walsh Act for failure to register as a sex offender.

Casarez is currently being held at Bexar County Jail awaiting extradition to Wisconsin.

United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas, LaFayette Collins, said, “Sexual offenders are on notice that the United States Marshals Service has changed their status from predators to prey.”
