Western District of Texas - District Activities
May 26, 2010
The Explosive Detection Canine Program (EDCP) team of Deputy U.S.
Marshal James Johnson and Polly visited Bellaire Elementary School in
San Antonio, Texas on May 26 to provide a demonstration of Polly’s
extensive training to detect over 19,000 explosive odors. Ms.
Valentine’s 3rd grade and Ms. De La Cruz’ 4th grade classes were
fascinated by Polly’s ability to distinguish explosive odor filled cans
from those without. The curious 9 and 10 year olds peppered Handler
Johnson with questions for over an hour as Polly sat next to him. It was
a wonderful experience for the students who invited the team back for
next year’s Career Day.
