Marshal Monzon was appointed by President
George W. Bush, after confirmation by the U. S. Senate, as United States
Marshal for the Southern District of Texas on July 31, 2002. Marshal
Monzon, a native of San Antonio, Texas has over thirty years experience
in domestic and international law enforcement in both the private and
public sectors.
Prior to his appointment, Marshal Monzon worked in the private sector as a corporate security consultant. Before his corporate security assignments, Marshal Monzon completed twenty-five years with the Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) where he served as a Special Agent, Attache at the United States Embassy in Panama, Chief Inspector and Special Agent in Charge of the DEA New Orleans Field Division. He retired from the agency in 1995, after serving as Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Houston Field Division. Marshal Monzon holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Hardin Simmons University. He is a graduate of the DEA National Academy and has completed the Program for Senior Managers in Government at Harvard University. While with DEA, Marshal Monzon received a Presidential Award as a Meritorious Executive in recognition of his accomplishment and efficiency in public service, a Department of Justice award and Performance awards from the Administrator of DEA. Marshal Monzon has served on the Texas Governor's Advisory Board on Drug and Alcohol Abuse and on the board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Greater Houston area. |
