Lyle Kenneth Youngman (44), a.k.a. Ken Youngman, a
fugitive wanted on outstanding Federal Charges of Supervised Release
Violations, was apprehended early Thursday, April 5th in Rapid
City, South Dakota by the United States Marshals Service.
Youngman had previously served 84 Months in Federal
Prison at Florence, Colorado after his 1999 convictions for Assault with a
Dangerous Weapon and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury on the Pine
Ridge Indian Reservation. Youngman has an extensive violent criminal
history, including a prior arrest for Threats to Assault, Kidnap or Murder a
US Official. In May of 2005, following his release from prison, Youngman
had been sent to Glory House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to begin his
three-year Supervised Release commitment. Youngman absconded from Glory
House at the end of May 2005 and was captured by the US Marshals Service on
the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in June of 2005.
In July of 2006, Youngman was placed into the Rapid
City / County Alcohol and Drug Program (Detox). Youngman absconded again in
August of 2006 and members of the Black Hills Fugitive Task Force have been
pursuing him ever since. A pre-dawn raid by Deputy US Marshals from the
Rapid City Office on Thursday, April 5th culminated with the
apprehension of Youngman at a residence on the 3400 block of Hemlock in
Rapid City.
“This case is a perfect example of the persistence and
dedication of Black Hills Fugitive Task Force,” said U.S. Marshal Warren
Anderson, “regardless of how long a fugitive is at large we will continue to
pursue them until they are apprehended.”
Following his apprehension, Youngman was arraigned
before US Magistrate Judge Marshall P. Young. Youngman will appear before
US District Court Judge Richard H. Battey at a future date.
The U.S. Marshals Service
is the lead law enforcement agency for the Black Hills Fugitive Task Force,
a team comprised of law enforcement officers from several law enforcement
agencies in western South Dakota. Last year, the task force apprehended
close to 250 fugitives wanted on federal and state warrants.
