United States Marshal Gary Shovlin

Gary E. Shovlin was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as the United States Marshal for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on May 10, 2002. Gary was born in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and raised in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He received his bachelor of arts degree in Psychology from Gettysburg College in 1976.

Gary began his Federal Law Enforcement career in 1977 with the United States Secret Service in Washington, D.C. He started his career with the United States Marshals Service in 1983 as a Deputy U. S. Marshal assigned to the Southern District of Texas. President George H. W. Bush appointed Gary to serve as the United States Marshal for the Middle District of Pennsylvania on June 19, 1990. After serving four years as United States Marshal he returned to his duties as a Deputy U. S. Marshal in the District of Maryland, where he was a member of the U. S. Marshals- Baltimore Police Homicide Task Force. 

Gary is currently serving on the Director’s Advisory Committee, and numerous other committees at the United States Marshals Service Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association. In addition he has been affiliated with the University of Scranton Criminal Justice Advisory Board, the National Sheriffs Association, Dauphin County (PA) Association of Police Chiefs, and the Brazoria County (TX) Criminal Investigators Association.
