Cavalier, David Wesley, Speaks to G.R.E.A.T Students
David Wesley of the Cleveland Cavaliers speaks
to 25 students of the Gang Resistance Education and Training
Program (G.R.E.A.T.) spearheaded by the U.S. Marshals Service in
Cleveland, OH. G.R.E.A.T. students were selected to be Jr.
Rookies for the CAVS-NBA Cares training camp. Deputy U.S.
Marshals and partnering G.R.E.A.T. police officers from Chagrin
Falls, Cleveland, East Cleveland, Parma, and Warrensville
Heights teamed up with CAVS players and coaches to reinforce the
anti-gang message to “Say no to violence.”
The G.R.E.A.T.
Program is a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed
classroom curriculum. G.R.E.A.T. lessons focus on providing
life skills to students to help them avoid delinquent behavior
and violence to solve problems.
The new G.R.E.A.T.
partnerships in the Northern District of Ohio include the
following agencies/departments: U.S. Marshals Service, East
Cleveland Police Department, Village of Chagrin Falls Police
Department and City Schools, Parma City Schools, NBC News
Channel 3 WKYC, Clear Channel Radio, Bureau of Justice
Assistance, G.R.E.A.T. Midwest Region, Case Western Reserve
University, Kent State University’s Institute for the Study and
Prevention of Violence, Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Rev. C. Jay
Matthews, DC Strategic Partners, Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland
Browns, Akron Racers, Institute for Creative Leadership, and the
United States District Court.
