Arrest of Kevin Othell Laferney

Dwight MacKay, United States Marshal for the District of Montana, announced the arrest of Kevin Othell Laferney, who was wanted for 4 counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, 4 counts of bail jumping and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution from Upshur County, Texas. Laferney faked his death and disappeared in February of 2007. The case was being worked by the Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force in Eastern Texas. They developed information that Laferney may be in Montana and forwarded it to The U.S. Marshals Service Violent Offender Task Force in Montana.

Marshal MacKay stated Laferney was arrested Tuesday August 21, 2007, by Deputy U.S. Marshals with extensive assistance from the Great Falls Police Department, in Great Falls, Montana.

Kevin Laferney is being held at Cascade County Jail pending an appearance before a federal magistrate.
