Ronald Henderson was appointed by President George W. Bush after Senate confirmation on May 7, 2002, to serve as the United States Marshal for the Eastern District of Missouri. Marshal Henderson began his law enforcement career in 1970 with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. During his 31 years as a law enforcement officer he ascended through the ranks and held several key management positions. His years of service to the City of St. Louis culminated in serving 5 years as the thirty-first Chief of Police. As Chief of Police, Marshal Henderson initiated several innovative policing programs including the Department’s first helicopter aviation unit, as well as downtown St. Louis’ first bicycle and mounted patrol unit. In 1996, he launched the Fun Without Guns Campaign that focuses on safety during New Year’s Eve. The program was established to discourage citizens from discharging weapons as part of their New Year celebration. As a major career highlight, Marshal Henderson coordinated a multi-agency security detail for the January 1999 visit of Pope John Paul III. He also directed the security plan for St. Louis’ first Super Bowl Victory Parade/Celebration in February of 2000. Marshal Henderson has served on numerous professional law enforcement boards and panels, and is active with community groups throughout the St. Louis area. |
| Since becoming U.S. Marshal in 2002, Marshal Henderson has distinguished himself by being appointed to the Director’s Advisory Committee. He is also serving on the Marshal’s Operational Review Panel and is a member of the Judicial Security Working Group. Marshal Henderson is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and is active in several charities. | |
