Arrest of Antonio Owsley
and Keith Alan Coatsworth
Two major fugitives wanted for robbery and
brutal assaults on their victims were arrested by the U.S. Marshal led
Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team (DFAT) in Southfield, Michigan.
Antonio R. Owsley and Keith Alan Coatsworth
were being sought by the San Diego Police Department for robbery and
aggravated assault . Owsley and Coatsworth are wanted for allegedly brutally
assaulting two elderly men and robbing them of their money. The beating were
so severe that one of the victims was in critical condition and the other
victim had to have a portion of his skull removed causing severe brain
damage. Further, according to San Diego detectives, these individuals may
have developed a pattern of beating and robbing their victims to fund their
travels. They both are suspected of having ties to street gangs in the San
Diego area. During the commission of one of these crimes they are alleged to
have videotaped the assault on a victim in which he died as a result of the
attack. This information is still being developed at this time by the San
Diego Police Department.
After developing information in conjunction
with San Diego Police Detectives assigned to the United States Marshals
Service, San Diego Violent Crimes Task Force, information was developed that
both dangerous fugitives had fled to Michigan.
In the early morning hours of Wednesday,
October 18th, DFAT, which consists of the
USMS, Michigan State Police, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Sterling
Heights Police Department and Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, went to
23832 Carriage Hill Court in Southfield, Michigan. Both men were found at
the residence and were arrested without incident.
Robert Grubbs, the U.S. Marshal for the
Eastern District of Michigan commented that the DFAT Task Force has “really
made an inroads into taking dangerous fugitives of the street.” “It shows
what can be accomplished by local, state and federal law enforcement in the
Detroit area and nationally, to capture violent fugitives before they can
commit other crimes.” Owsley and Coatsworth are being held in the Oakland
County Jail and are currently awaiting extradition to face their charges.
