Fugitive on New Orleans Most Wanted List Arrested by U.S. Marshals Task Force

Baton Rouge - A dangerous fugitive from New Orleans was arrested by the members of the Middle Louisiana Fugitive Task Force this afternoon with the assistance of the New Orleans based Crescent Star Fugitive Task Force (CSFTF) and the Southern University Campus Police Department. Leroy Massey, 21, was placed on the New Orleans Most Wanted list based on warrants charging him with murder and attempted murder in New Orleans and Jefferson Parish.

Massey had been the subject of a manhunt since September 16, 2006, when he is believed to have committed a murder and an attempted murder by shooting two victims that were seated in a vehicle. The male victim died at the scene and the female victim was taken to a hospital for treatment related to gunshot wounds. Nineteen shell casings from an assault rifle were found at the scene of the murder. Massey is also a suspect in the shooting of a New Orleans Police Officer in the Lincoln Shire subdivision in Jefferson Parish. At the time of the NOPD officer’s shooting, law enforcement officers were actively looking for Massey as the suspect in the shooting that had just occurred in the area.

Investigators developed information that Massey was in the Baton Rouge area and focused their efforts in the area of Southern University. Massey was arrested without incident in the Satterwhite Hall dorm on the Southern University Campus.

“The collaborated arrest of this suspected murderer is an example of our continued commitment to keep the Baton Rouge area safe,” said U.S. Marshal Carey Jenkins.

The Middle Louisiana Fugitive Task Force, coordinated by the U.S. Marshals Service, is a multi-agency task force that targets persons wanted for violent crimes and narcotic offenses in the Capitol area and surrounding Parishes. Contributing agencies are the East and West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Offices, the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, and the Louisiana State Probation and Parole.
