Every month for the past nine years, Dave MacLellan traveled more than
1,500 miles from his home near Boston, MA to New Orleans. He would spend
his days traveling across the state visiting law enforcement agencies,
parish prisons, state penitentiaries and correctional institutes to talk
to everyone who might know something about the death of his son, John
MacLellan.
John was 38 when he was killed after leaving a local bar near his home
in Lakeview on July 16, 2004. After having drinks with a few friends and
walking the short distance home, he was approached by a man demanding
money. When he said he didn’t have any money, he was shot. John was able
to call 911, but later lapsed into a coma. He remained in a coma for a
month, but died shortly after coming out of the coma from infections
related to the bullets remaining inside his body.
Dave MacLellan passed away on January 19, 2013 unable to ever realize
any justice for the killing of his son. Dave never gave up hope. While
he knew finding his son’s killers wouldn’t bring his son back, he knew
that it would take a murderer off the street to prevent him from hurting
other people and their families.
Crime Stoppers continues to offer a $5,000 reward for the arrest and
indictment of John’s killers. The United States Marshals Service,
Eastern District of Louisiana will continue to support Dave’s effort to
see John’s killers brought to justice. Anyone with any information
concerning this homicide should contact the Marshals Service at
(504) 589-6079, the New Orleans Police
Department Homicide Division or any law enforcement agency with any
information that might help realize Dave’s dream of finding his son’s
killers. |
