Arrest of Malik Matthews

The United States Marshals Service Task Force in Delaware has arrested a 20-year-old man wanted for attempted murder. New Castle County Police have obtained warrants for Malik Matthews of Elsmere Blvd., Elsmere, Delaware.

On Sunday, November 26, 2006 at 11:30, p.m., New Castle County Police responded to the unit block of Heron Court for multiple reports of “shots-fired.” When police arrived, they found an 18 year old male subject bleeding from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was rushed to Christiana Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. The investigation revealed the victim was standing out in front of a home on Heron Court, Newark when he was approached by a subject operating a white van. The operator of the van opened fire on the victim striking him once in the chest. The victim remains in the hospital and is still listed in very critical condition.

Detectives developed information Matthews was staying in an apartment near State College Rd., Dover, Delaware. The task force setup surveillance in the area this morning and determined Matthews was inside an apartment. Officers went into the apartment and found Matthews in a back bedroom.

Matthews has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. He is being held at the Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $540,000 cash bail.
