Arrest of Homicide Suspect Shawn Morrison

At approximately 2:00am Thursday, October 4th, 2007, Deputy U.S. Marshals from Delaware’s First State Fugitive Task Force and the New York/New Jersey Regional Task Force apprehended Shawn Morrison, 21 in the 400 block of East 5th Street, Bethel Villa on Wilmington’s east side. Morrison, originally from the Bronx, was wanted by the NYPD for his involvement in a May 3rd, 2006 homicide in the Bronx. According to reports, Morrison allegedly shot a 24-year-old Bronx man three times as he sat on a milk crate in the Williamsbridge section of the borough. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel and a 6-year-old girl was treated for injuries she received after being struck by one of Morrison’s shell casings.

Investigators from the NYPD Bronx Homicide Squad and the NY/NJ Regional Task Force developed critical information pertaining to Morrison’s whereabouts late in the afternoon of October 3rd, 2007. Task Force Officers from the NY/NJ RFTF traveled from New York and linked with their Delaware counterparts at approximately 9:00pm October 3rd. After approximately 5 hours of surveillance, Marshals swept through a Bethel Village apartment building in the 400 block of East 5th Street, Wilmington, and apprehended Morrison without incident as he sat in a third floor apartment.

Morrison was transported to the Wilmington Police Department for processing as an out of state fugitive. Morrison waived extradition before a Delaware magistrate and was immediately returned to New York by officers from the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.

The United States Marshals Service First State Fugitive Task Force is comprised of members of the Marshals Service, Delaware State Police, Delaware State Probation and Parole, New Castle County and Wilmington Police Departments. The state and local officers were sworn in as special deputy U.S. Marshals in order to provide them with broader jurisdictional authority.
