David W. Thomas is the 44th United States Marshal for the District of Delaware. He was nominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed in 2002 by the United States Senate. David Thomas started his law enforcement career in 1982 as a police officer for the University of Delaware, and remained there for two years. In 1984, David Thomas was hired by the Delaware State Police initially serving as a uniformed trooper for five years. After that, was reassigned to the Delaware State Police Executive Security Unit, the Public Information Office and the Legislative Liaison Office. While in the Executive Security Unit, Thomas was responsible for the security and transportation of the Governor of Delaware. Thomas was elected to a two-year term as Vice President of the National Governors Security Association. As Public Information Officer for the Delaware State Police, Thomas was responsible for disseminating information to the media, conducting and arranging on-camera interviews, writing news releases, and keeping the Superintendent informed of newsworthy items. He was a member of the National Officers Information Association. As Legislative Liaison for the Delaware State Police, Thomas worked closely with state legislators on crime and highway safety issues. Thomas assisted in the passage of ground-breaking legislation on terrorism, domestic violence, carjacking, aggressive driving, and a graduated driver’s license program. |

Marshal David Thomas has been teaching the Law Enforcement Public Information Workshop for the past eight years. This includes instructing police officers, firefighters, and paramedics all over the country on how to work with the media. Marshal Thomas is currently a member of the United States Marshals Service Operation Review Panel.
