William (Bill) S. Taylor, was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as the United States Marshal for the Southern District of Alabama on March 13, 2002. He took the oath of office on March 28, 2002. Bill was born and raised in southern Alabama in Choctaw County. He is a graduate of the Alabama Police Academy and the 117th Session of the FBI National Academy. Marshal Taylor is a 28 year veteran of the United States Army and the United States Army National Guard. He served one year in Vietnam as an Infantry Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant. He later had six months service in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm as a Staff Sergeant and retired as a CW3. He received several awards during his military service including a Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Medal with one Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. Marshal Taylor began his law enforcement career as a police officer in the Butler, AL Police Department in 1969. He later transferred to the Jackson, AL Police Department where he rose up through the ranks until he became the Chief of Police in 1975. He served in that capacity until 1995, when he accepted a position as Law Enforcement Coordinator/Special Investigator with Office of the Attorney General of Alabama. He remained in the Attorney Generals Office until his appointment as the United Sates Marshal for the Southern District of Alabama. |

Among his honors, Marshal Taylor has been recognized as Citizen of the Year for the City of Jackson, Alabama(1979), Law Enforcement Office of the Year for the State of Alabama(1980) and a Distinguished Service Award from the Office of the Attorney General of Alabama(2002). Marshal Taylor is married with three children and resides in rural Southern Alabama where he loves to hunt and fish. |
